Premium asymmetrical horror experience

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a premium action game based on the popular suspense-horror movie franchise of the same name. What makes this particular survival horror experience unique is that you can experience being the lonesome survivor or the maniac murderer. Regardless of your role, you must remain cunning and resourceful to succeed.

Produced by Gun Media Holdings, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre boasts a similar experience to Friday The 13th: The Game. It boasts a PvP (player vs player) gameplay and comes with a map to help you navigate your way through each match.

Relive the classic horror franchise

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre horror film entered the scene in 1974 and now you can experience it through this fast-paced game. However, there’s a twist; you can choose whether you want to be a hunter or the prey. As a killer, your primary objective is to stop the victims from escaping your family’s estate and eliminate them. Choose among five killer characters: Leatherface, the Hitchhiker, the Cook, Johny, and Sissy.

When it comes to choosing a character, be mindful that each killer has a unique weapon, attributes, and skills; for instance, Leatherface uses his trademark weapon, a chainsaw to maim his victims, while the Hitchhiker is skilled in making boobytraps throughout the map. If you want to know what it feels like to be a victim, you can also choose from five survivor characters: Ana, Julie, Connie, Sonny, and Leland.

The family hunts the survivors while the other team tries to survive, escape each level, and eliminate their hunters. Make sure to use the map’s hiding spots to your advantage. However, cross-progression isn’t available for the game. With this, your progress is tied to a specific platform and can’t be carried over to a different one.

Standout features

True enough The Texas Chain Saw Massacre manages to offer a unique horror experience thanks to its familiar and powerful premise. Its impressive features, however, make this survival game the real deal. Meticulously designed to challenge and terrify you at the same time, the title boasts a cinematic and atmospheric environment that would make you feel as if your very life is at stake. The daring escapes and the gruesome executions are not for the fainthearted.

Despite the lifelike depiction, the gameplay is light and fun. It comes with the right balance, enough to startle you with jump scares and get your survival instinct kicking in. Unlike other asymmetric games whose one side can only be played with a single player, this game includes a 3v4 format that allows family and friends to team up. No one gets left behind to fend for themselves alone.

At heart, the title is designed to be enjoyed by family and friends, say during Friday game nights or on Halloween. Interactive and approachable, it lets players plan and strategize together in a seamless and productive way. Not to mention it features multiple escape options that you cannot find in other similar games. The addition of several gateways not only reinforces teamwork among the players but also prevents the gameplay from becoming dull and monotonous.

What’s new?

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s most recent patch update brings several key updates to the table. Players can now purchase the Leland Outfit Pack II as well as new characters Maria (Victim) and Hands (Family), individually or bundled. Notably, all random nodes have been removed from characters’ Skill Trees, leading to a full respec, though perk levels remain unchanged. Additionally, fixes include the ‘Wait a Second’ perk, which now properly enforces a delay of three to eight seconds for removing barbed wire, and the ‘Back for Blood’ perk, which now correctly restores health when attacking Grandpa.

The next action game to try

Overall, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game is an excellent option for those who want a spine-chilling experience. Successfully recreating the feel of its 1974 film inspiration, providing intense gameplay, and a great set of characters, there’s nothing else a horror-loving gamer can ask for. Aside from the lack of a cross-progression feature, it’s an amazing program that can keep you entertained and on your toes for hours.
